Privacy policy
I respect the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and this policy explains how I collect and treat any information you give me. You won’t find any complicated legal terms or long passages of unreadable text. I’ve no desire to trick you into agreeing to something you might later regret.
Why I value your privacy
I value your privacy as much as I do my own, so I’m committed to keeping your personal and business information safe. I’m uncomfortable with the information companies, governments, and other organisations keep on file, so I ask for only the bare minimum from my visitors and subscribers. I’ll never use your personal information for any reason other than why you gave it, and I’ll never give anyone access to it unless I’m forced to by law.
How I collect information
I use Clicky to log and analyze the traffic to this web site. You may review Clicky’s privacy policy at http://clicky.com/terms/privacy. A “Unique ID” cookie is used for the “legitimate purpose” of identifying unique visitors, but otherwise no “personal data” is logged and I cannot (to my knowledge) access details on individual visitors (see cookie policy below).
When you sign up for my personal newsletter I collect your name and email address. These details are stored with Mailchimp which is the platform I prefer. MailChimp will tell me if a subscriber has opened an email or clicked a link. I rarely look at individuals. My primary concern is whether the content I am producing is of interest. That said, that data is available to me.
I also collect your name and email address when you send me a message through my contact form. The form is procesed by Wufoo, you can review their privacy policy at https://www.surveymonkey.com/mp/legal/privacy-policy/.
If you contact me by email, I store your name and email on my computer, which is encrypted and protected by a strong password. A copy of your messages and address is stored by my provider Fastmail.
What I use your information for
Your data will not be shared with anyone. I will use your contact information to reply to your inquiries, publish your comments and for newsletter management. My newsletter is personal and does not contain direct marketing or advertising. It may contain reviews of software and music products I find useful or promote my music.
The steps I take to keep your information private
Where I store your information in third-party services, I am the only person who has access. I store passwords in 1Password, an encrypted password manager, use a different, randomly generated password for each service, and never use the same password twice.
The computers I use are all encrypted using Apple FileVault and are protected by a strong passcode (I do not trust fingerprint access). These computers ask for authentication whenever they’re started or after 5 minutes of inactivity. My mobile devices are also encrypted and protected by strong passcodes.
By providing your data you declare to accept this policy.
You can request the update or deletion of your data anytime.
